4 Common Summer Air Conditioning Problems

Air Conditioning Problems

Your air conditioner is busiest during summer. Since your AC system is continually working to provide cool air, it’s most vulnerable to breakdowns during this season. Here are common air conditioning problems you might experience during summer in Deatsville, AL:

Clogged AC Filter

Your AC filter removes contaminants from the air before it enters your air conditioner. With time, the filter clogs, interfering with the system’s ability to draw air from your house.

Your AC system can only recirculate as much air as it draws from your home. Therefore, a blockage in your filter will limit the system’s ability to provide your home with cool air. Also, a clogged filter will cause your system to consume more electricity while struggling to pull air; therefore, your energy bill will shoot up.

Consider changing the filter often to allow your system to work without hindrances. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends changing the filter every 30-90 days.

Warm Air Blowing From the Vents

Ideally, your AC system should produce cool air. However, it may do the opposite sometimes and deliver warm air. Factors such as low or leaking refrigerant, thermostat issues, dirty condenser coils, frozen evaporator coils and leaky ducts may cause your air conditioning system to blow warm air.

Leaky Air Conditioning Refrigerant

The refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air and releases it to the outside environment through the condenser coils. The refrigerant may start leaking, causing the AC system to fail to perform its function optimally.

If you notice your refrigerant is leaking, don’t attempt to repair your system because the fluid can harm human health. Consider having a service technician inspect your unit and do the necessary AC repairs.

Short-Cycling AC System

Short-cycling occurs when your unit shuts off before completing a cycle and immediately starts again. Faulty wiring, frozen evaporator coils and an incorrectly sized unit may cause short-cycling. Your AC system may not cool your place efficiently without completing an entire cycle.
